How to: Market Your Brand on Facebook, Part 1

by Stacey Acevero
Facebook LikeFacebook has 845 million + users. Engage one, get noticed by hundreds: Facebook users have a large network of sharing power and 57% of Facebook users have more than one hundred friends. Are you harnessing the power of this gigantic network to market your brand?
There’s a ton of ways to get seen on Facebook. If you haven’t already, I suggest you create a brand page to showcase your products or services. Facebook will take you through the easy process here. First, you choose whether you’re a local business, a company, a brand, an artist, entertainment medium or cause. Agree to the Facebook Page Terms, title your brand and choose which category you’d like to be classified in.  From there, you’ll be prompted to upload a profile picture (try a logo or picture of your product) and then fill in some information such as contact details, history of your brand, mission and website(s). Lastly, you’ll customize your Facebook page URL, which makes it easier for consumers to find you.
Now comes the fun part – customization!
Facebook apps attract new fans and drive engagement with visual tools, content and promotions. Here’s a glimpse of some cool apps that Vocus provides (and you can try them free for 14 days!):
Sweepstakes App: Giving away something big? Use the sweepstakes app to display photos of the prize and how to enter. You can embed a form inside the app to collect the information of your customers, and a thank you image will appear after they click submit.
Sweepstakes Facebook App
Fan Offer App: Convert visitors into fans of your Facebook page by rewarding them with an exclusive coupon or invitation to a special event.
Fan Offer Facebook App
Video Channel App: Add and organize your YouTube video content directly on your Facebook page to increase views and exposure.
Video Showcase App Facebook
Photo Showcase: Different from the standard Facebook Photo album, this app displays your images super-large to help promote your business. Optional “Buy Now” buttons can convert this app into your social store.
Sign Up App: Create contact forms, online surveys and invitations to capture valuable information directly from your Fan page.
Sign Up Facebook App

Document Display: Share important documents like whitepapers, articles, instructions and other text or visual-heavy materials directly on your fan page.
RSS Feed: Automatically share your blog posts or news content to your fans. Grow your fan count with the optional gating feature.
Viral Wave Generator: Generate a wave of support and momentum for a product or cause with this extremely viral application.
Twitter Feed: Install this app and make sure your followers, friends and fans never miss a tweet.
And there’s still more apps to check out!

Why Stronger Visuals Help You Sell More Stuff

                   JUNE 13, 2012

pinterest image logo Why Stronger Visuals Help You Sell More Stuffbadge tools tactics Why Stronger Visuals Help You Sell More StuffDial Corporation this week announced a new campaign that integrates its long-standing Facebook Page with its new-ish Pinterest page, giving its Facebook community a challenge to create cause-related boards on Pinterest. The top organizations featured on those user-generated boards will compete to win a $5,000 prize.
This isn’t an entirely new type of campaign, of course, even if Dial is probably among the first CPG brands to embrace Pinterest as a campaign element in this way. Dial is looking to capitalize on what is becoming a known fact – strong visuals help sell product and the stories around them. This fact was addressed most recently in a SteelHouse study that found Pinterest users were 79% MORE LIKELY to purchase a product they saw pinned on Pinterest versus Facebook.
recent Shopify study found that the average e-commerce cart size of a Pinterest user was double that of a Facebook users ($80 vs. $40). Likewise, pins with prices are 36% more likely to pick up likes than pins without. Don’t panic – this does not mean Facebook users are not going to buy your stuff; in fact, according to the SteelHouse study they are more likely to share their purchases on Facebook than elsewhere. So you will be picking up converting traffic from these social channels and many more.
If not panic, then what should the lesson here be? Visuals tell a story about your product, and the more inviting and exciting they are the more likely consumers will be to click on through and do something about it. As you’re planning the creative elements for your social efforts, considering the following:

Consistency

Represent your brand consistently in all social channels, but allow for some differentation among them to keep the content appealing to the community

Storytelling

Use the images that you post on your social channels to tell a story about the lifestyle of your brand. Don’t just post product photos; post images of people wearing, eating, drinking or otherwise consuming your products.

Inform

Research shows that people respond to prices in a Pinterest post, so find fun ways to provide them with that information. Maybe it’s a cute price tag hanging from the product.

Pin

This one is pretty obvious, but if your brand is not already on Pinterest, it’s probably time to join, if even experimentally.

How is your brand integrating visuals and what has your experience been with sales lift?

Eight Tips to Turn Your Small Biz Into a Content Producing Machine

Posted in: Social Media • By Bill Miltenberg, PR News

In today’s media landscape, any brand—large or small—can be a content publisher. However, communicators need to figure out their brand’s unique storytelling point and thus transform that brand into a publisher and media producer.
Communicators can structure their storytelling for a myriad of platforms: online, mobile, social and, yes, even print. When it comes to publishing on the Web, small business owners sometimes have an advantage over their larger competitors—they can be quick and nimble in their creation and dissemination of content.
Here are eight tips to turn your small business into a content producing machine:
  1. Start with FAQs: “Every company should think of the typical questions it hears from its consumers, and there are probably a top 10 or 20 that easily come to mind—those are your first 20 blog articles,” says Marcus Sheridan, CEO of River Pool & Spas.
  2. Use critical comments on the Web as a basis for new content: ”If someone posts comments or content on the Web that critiques your service or product, use keywords from that comment to create your own content and respond to the criticism,” says Sheridan. This content will then show up in Google searches. Sheridan says he has gotten 32 leads over an 18-month period using this tactic.
  3. Use brand comparisons in your content: Take advantage of the fact that your customers are entering Google searches that include you and your competitors. “You don’t have to say your competitor stinks, but you can at least talk about yourself to address the question,” says Sheridan. For example: “Fiberglass Pools vs. Concrete Pools: An Honest Comparison” was a successful page for attracting Sheridan visitors since it reflects what consumers actually search for.
  4. Trumpet your awards: Look for opportunities to showcase the awards you’ve won, since consumers will often search for which brand has been crowned best-in-industry.
  5. Quickly post content about industry-related breaking news: When another pool company filed for bankruptcy, Sheridan jumped out in front of the story with his blog post. “You’ve got to be the source in your industry—if you start writing great stuff, you’ll get phone calls regarding other news stories, which will help your brand gain traction and trust among consumers,” says Sheridan.
  6. Repackage: Michael Weiss, a digital agency veteran and CEO of Web agency Figure18, says, “There’s often this fear among organizations that they don’t have enough content. However, most organizations typically do have existing content—it just needs to be scoured and repackaged.” Whether it’s turning a white paper into a podcast or vice versa, nearly all content can be recycled and made anew.
  7. Share content socially: With social media, content is what people share, and the sharing of it itself shows off your expertise.
  8. Embrace price as subject in your content: Sheridan says that most companies don’t want to talk about price online, yet that’s one of the first questions customers will ask. “Not having a price page on your site is a mistake,” says Sheridan.
Remember to make your content easy to digest—use bullet points, short paragraphs and brief headlines.
